2023 Innovations in Pedagogy Summit

One of the oft-reported joys of teaching is seeing students’ brilliance. Whether as an individual or a group, student brilliance illuminates our teaching. When we teach, we also unwittingly and constantly call upon students’ resilience; we ask them to try, make mistakes, approach desirable difficulties, accept and act upon feedback, and persevere especially when things are going poorly. In crises and when the non-classroom aspects of teaching suddenly and tragically dominate our educational ecosystem, can our classrooms and communities contribute to students’ resilience? How does or can their brilliance shine through during dark times?

The 10th Annual Innovations in Pedagogy Summit aims to capture that light through this year’s theme: Brilliant, Resilient Learning. The event will kick off with our keynote speaker Dr. Mays Imad, an assistant professor of biology and equity pedagogy at Connecticut College. In her plenary, titled Harnessing the Resilience Within: The Science of Biological and Behavioral Resilience through Plasticity, Sociality, and Meaning, she will introduce us to three factors that can promote resilience so we can continue to engage, learn, lead, and thrive.

Following Imad's presentation, the day will consist of two sets of concurrent sessions with lunch in between, and finish with a showcase from our Community-Engaged Teaching Scholars.
